Savoy Grill, The Savoy

Restaurant lighting can make or break a dining experience.

The central design consideration for our latest project for Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill, was how best to devise a lighting scheme that would celebrate the opulence, history and exuberance of dining at the Savoy Grill, within the confines of a sustainable lighting solution designed for the modern age.

The Savoy Grill is a place of sumptuous food, sparkling cocktails and special occasion, decor hints gently to the decadence of the roaring twenties, the glamour and the magic of the Jazz Age. The lighting had to celebrate that lineage, whilst also working in harmony with the original shimmering Swarovski chandeliers, first commissioned for the previous refurbishment back in 2003. Warm, white LED lamps accentuate the richness of the interiors by Afroditi and help create the sense of intimacy the client wanted to maintain in this sympathetic refurbishment.

From dusk to dawn, the lighting in the restaurant delivers a dash of old world razzle dazzle romance and Great Gatsby allure, helping this iconic restaurant remain the ultimate dining space in which to bask in the glow and savour in the delight of a little prohibition era opulence.

A new addition to the Savoy Grill is the Wine Experience Room, where carefully integrated lighting to the bespoke walnut joinery highlights the extensive display of rare fine wines.

The Chef’s Table within the heart of the kitchen was also refurbished at the same time, allowing guests to enjoy an immersive culinary experience.

A perfect example of this attention to design detail was in the commission of a bespoke version of the Flos Last Order battery table lamp in matt brass, which had to be approved personally by designer Michael Anastassiades.
